All things Chessic

For a long time chess has been a big part of my life. I remember pouring over the algebraic chess notations of Kasparov's games...especially the ones against Karpov. I loved his variations of the sicilian dragon and the closed ruy lopez against the Queen's gambit. I used his nf3 as my opener and when played against most people it gave me such an advantage it usually led to a win.

Anyways, I had several drawing of chess pieces in my old bboy style book. I just redid a few pieces just recently. Just sketches.

Yeah, and how I love it

“Mistakes are a fact of life. It is the response to the error that counts.”
- Nikki Giovanni

Or better yet, when the facade crumbles...I'll smile when you're standing there with stretched marked thighs and tired eyes.

bleh

Not meant to be serious. Just breaking the clustered thought vessels.

first 10

So, I posted the first two pages, here's the rest of the 8.
Cubby's friends go on their family vacation and she is expecting the same with hers. I wanted
to delineate the value of "being together" which, as the story progresses becomes the inciting
incident for Cubby to embark on her quest: to heal her broken family. It is a big task, maybe somewhat pretentious as she quickly becomes overwhelmed and it pushes her to make choices until she has to decide which is more important. Her own self or her family.

But I wanted to tell a story about courage and heart, almost a David and Goliath story.
There are times when we feel we are so small yet there is that undying spark in us that can and will
push us forward, throw that last punch, take that last step, or maybe...ultimately sacrifice
ourselves because, yeah, there's something bigger than just "me."

Backpacking across love and four different kinds of smiles

Here is my latest screenplay called Backpacking Across Love and Four Different Kinds of Smiles.
Yes, I know it's a pretty weird title, but I had such a hard time coming up with one that when this popped into my head. Well, I just took it.

The story is about a young girl desperately trying to bring her family together when she discovers that they're on the brink of tearing each other apart.

Each family member lives isolated in their own world, they are self serving and have no interaction with the others. I created 5 different worlds, one for each character and one that is in real life.

I wanted the opener to introduce the audience to the different "realms" that each character lives in. As the story progresses, each character is drawn out of their "realm" and back into the real world.

A world where the value of family means something more than just going through the motions.

Lettering two

This was done a couple a years ago. I still don't know how I feel
about graf done on the computer. I wouldn't go as far as to call
myself a "purist," because I feel that evolution is an absolute necessity
if the artwork/culture is to survive. There is something so "connecting"
between the paper, hand, and your thoughts.

Lettering

Redefining the letter has always intrigued me. I always try to balance my lettering around
logic and creativity. If doing characters is a powermove, then lettering is the style.
This is another old piece. I'll upload newer work later.

FLUSHED Screenplay

Here is an excerpt from the first 10 pages of my screenplay called FLUSHED.
I wanted to delineate Nathan as a runner. He will leap,
bound, and vault his way over any obstacle that comes his way. This will
eventually play a crucial role when he has to decide whether to bring
himself to face his biggest obstacle or run away from it.
